How My Journey Began

Hi! I’m Amy!

I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have been together since 1999 (babies back then). We were married in 2005 and have four beautiful children. I always wanted a big family and I definitely got what I was asking for. My son was born in 2009 and my daughters were born in 2011, 2012, and 2014. So yes, I had a lot of time either being pregnant or breastfeeding between 2011-2014!

I didn’t always know I wanted to be a lactation consultant, however, after I had my fourth baby I knew that my experiences and times spent with the amazing Lactation Consultants had made an unbelievable impact on me. I knew that without their support, guidance, and loving care I wouldn’t have been nearly as successful as I was each and every time I had a baby. Yes, even after the fourth kid, I still sought one on one support. You better believe it that I went to every single week of “boob group,” as we called it. The weekly support group meant community connection and I craved that. I still have people I keep in touch with from those groups.

My experiences with breastfeeding were all of over the place. I absolutely loved it and hated it some of the time, just like you might. I experienced every single complication under the sun. I also experienced so much deep in love connection with each of my kids. It’s like magic. I knew that my experiences could be used to guide and support others along their way as I have been supported. Wether it’s a phone call to trouble shoot challenges, or to offer encouragement and support, I love helping new and seasoned parents with their decision to breast/chest-feed.

My Education

I have my bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in communications and used that through out my adult life to run a local childcare program in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Prior to the pandemic, when all of my kids were school aged I started the process towards IBCLC certification. I went back to school myself, but as we all know in 2020 things came to a grinding halt. A few years later, in 2022 I finished up all of my schooling! I attended UCSD Extension’s Human Lactation program, and became a Lactation Education Counselor (LEC). I also finished up my schooling with Lactation Education Resources and am a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (BFS). I am currently in progress towards amassing my 500 hours needed in clinical lactation mentorship to qualify for the IBCLC exam in March 2024.

I am a member of United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) and continue to broaden my education and knowledge of breastfeeding by attending webinars, and conferences from the California Breastfeeding Coalition, Gold Lactation, Breastfeed LA, and more.
